Counsel for the petitioner submits that there is a strong possibility of Naveen’s death being a homicide

The Kerala High Court on Thursday reserved its order on a writ petition filed by Manjusha, widow of former Kannur Additional District Magistrate (ADM) K. Naveen Babu, seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into his death.

When the petition came up for hearing, counsel for the petitioner submitted that there was a strong possibility of it being a homicide. He pointed out that the inquest report indicated presence of bloodstains on the undergarments of the deceased. However, the post-mortem report did not given any indication of blood or stains. The discrepancy leaves the source of the bloodstains on the undergarments unexplained and raised suspicion. The counsel also pointed out that in all cases of unnatural death, viscera were preserved and sent for toxicological analysis to rule out the possibility of poisoning, whether self-administered or otherwise. However, neither the viscera nor blood samples were preserved or submitted for examination in the case of Naveen Babu.

Director General of Prosecution T.A. Shaji while opposing the plea for a CBI probe submitted that the petitioner could not provide any material to prove the lapses on the part of the police in the investigation of the case. The investigation was on the right track.
