Woman hacked to death in Erode

by · The Hindu

A 56-year-old woman was hacked to death at her house, while her husband sustained serious  injuries and was admitted to the hospital on Thursday.

The police said Kannammal, who had previously lost her first husband and child,  married Nallasivam, 57. The couple was residing at Bharathipalayam on Poondurai Main Road. She had two brothers and a sister, and their parents’ farmland was located at Nathagoundenpalayam.

At 3 p.m., an unidentified man entered the house and hacked Kannammal to death. Nallasivam suffered injuries to his hand and head. The man fled the scene, and neighbours, upon hearing the noise, raised an alarm. Nallasivam was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Erode.

Preliminary inquiries reveal that a land dispute may have been the motive behind the murder, as Kannammal had been demanding her share of the property. The body was shifted to the hospital for post-mortem. The Erode Taluk police are investigating.
