E.V.K.S. Elangovan’s demise causes profound grief politically and personally: CM Stalin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday condoled the death of senior Tamil Nadu Congress Committee leader and Erode (East) MLA E.V.K.S. Elangovan.

In a statement, Mr. Stalin said he is deeply pained by the news of Mr. Elangovan’s demise.

Mr. Elangovan comes from a traditional family of Periyar and E.V.K. Sampath. He served in various positions including chief of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC), MLA, MP, Union Minister and served the public efficiently, he recalled.

Mr. Elangovan always speaks his mind, Mr. Stalin said.

Mr. Elangovan was shattered after the death of his son E. Thirumahan Everaa. However, he contested in the bypoll and won and served the public despite his personal loss, the Chief Minister said.

Whenever Mr. Elangovan met me, he asked me to “take care of my health”, Mr. Stalin recalled.

“I also told him to take care of his health. Mr Elangovan consoled me that he is doing his public duty briskly and he is in good health,” he added.

“Whenever I met him in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, he used to mention that people are supporting the schemes under the Dravidian model government and appreciate it,” Mr. Stalin said.

Recalling his visit to hospital when Elangovan was admitted, Mr. Stalin he was constantly inquiring about his health.

His demise causes profound grief both politically and personally, Mr. Stalin added and extended his condolences to Mr. Elangovan’s family, Congress cadres, and people of Erode East Assembly constituency.
