According to the police, P. Mukundan, 28, of Tiruvarur district has been working as Rapido Bike Taxi operator. After he got a booking near the Government Saidapet hospital, he arrived at the spot where a few autorickshaw drivers were staging a protest against bike taxis. Three of the protesters assaulted Mukundan. They also damaged a car and fled the spot. The injured Mukundan underwent treatment and lodged a police complaint.
Based on his complaint, the police arrested three autorickshaw drivers, who were identified as K. Sathish Kumar, 34, of Anakaputhur, and S. Rajagopal, 26, and P. Sivakumar, 34, of Thiruverkadu. The investigation revealed that while the protest was happening, a few of the protesters booked a bike taxi to lure operators and assault them.
