The State government has renamed the Anti-Narcotic Task Force, as Eagle. It is aimed at controlling drugs and ganja supply and peddling in Andhra Pradesh. The Cabinet Sub-Committee which met at the Secretariat has chalked out a plan to check cultivation of ganja (marijuana) and smuggling of the contraband in the State, said Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha.

The Cabinet Sub-Committee comprising IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, Health Minister Y. Satya Kumar, Women Development and Child Welfare and Tribal Welfare Minister Gummadi Sandhya Rani and Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra on Wednesday, discussed the measures to be taken to root out the menace in the next six months.

Awareness programmes

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Anitha said that awareness programmes will be conducted on the title ‘Maha Sankalpam’ at village and mandal- levels in the State. Awareness programmes will be conducted in schools, colleges and universities, she said.

The Ministers asked the police to use Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital forensics, facial recognition and social media monitoring to prevent drug and ganja and stressed the need for coordination among Education, Police, Forests, Transport, Tribal Welfare and Health Departments to put an end to ganja and drugs in Andhra Pradesh.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will launch ‘Eagle 1972’ toll-free number to prevent supply of drugs and ganja, the Home Minister said.
