Private school management, mob booked for rumpus in Shamsheergunj

The Chatrinaka police on Thursday booked two cases in connection with tension at a private school in Shamsheergunj.

This comes a day after a mob trespassed into the school and attacked the students.

According to Chatrinaka Inspector V Srinivas Reddy, the incident stemmed from a fight between two students during lunch break on December 10.

“A scuffle that broke out between two students of Class VII and Class VIII respectively over a petty issue, which intensified after the religious mala belonging to one of them broke,” the official said.

The situation escalated on Wednesday as a mob, supporters of the student belonging to one community, trespassed the school premises and beat up students there.

“The child narrated the incident to his community members later on Tuesday while seeking another mala from them. The agitated group arrived at the school on Wednesday morning and created a nuisance there,” the official added. The police reached the spot and dispersed the crowd.

The official said while the school management was booked for their negligence and their failure to address the issue effectively in time, the mob was booked for trespass, creating nuisance and attacking children in the school.

On Wednesday evening, the parents of both students were counselled by the school authorities. Following the incident, about 15 policemen were deployed outside the school premises while 4-5 policemen were deployed inside in civil attire to prevent more trouble.
