Three nursing students drown in river near Venur

Three nursing students from Mangaluru were drowned in the Phalguni in Nadtikallu in Venur police station limits of Dakshina Kannada on Wednesday.

The police gave the names of the deceased as Laurence, 20, of Kuppepadavu, Suraj, 19, of Punjalkatte, and Jaison, 19, of Vagga.

The police said the three students had come to the house of Walter in Moodukodi village on Wednesday and attend the annual feast of Venur church. After having lunch in Walter’s house, the three came to have a bath in the backwaters of the Phalguni near Nadtikallu Barkaje dam in the evening. All the three got stuck in the water current and were drowned. Local swimmers helped police in fishing out the bodies, the police said.
