Trio robs Coimbatore man after luring him on dating app
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduThe Saravanampatti police in Coimbatore are on the lookout for three men, who robbed a man of ₹10,500 after luring him using a dating app for the LGBTQ+.
The police registered a case based on a complaint lodged by a 27-year-old man from Thanthai Periyar Nagar at Saravanampatty, who works as an assistant in the fertilizer warehouse of a co-operative society.
The complaint told the police that an account holder of the dating app, which he was using, expressed interest for a meetup near a private school at Saravanampatty on Monday.
As the complainant went to the location around 8.30 p.m. on Monday, the unknown person took him to a shady area behind a restaurant, where two others were waiting.
According to the complainant, the trio threatened him and demanded he transfer money via UPI. When the complainant told them that he did not have balance in his bank account, they forced him to borrow money from friends. The trio escaped from the spot, after transferring a total of ₹10,500 that the complainant borrowed from his friends.
The victim lodged a complaint with the police on Tuesday, based on which a case was registered. The police were on the lookout for the three accused.
