Tamil Nadu CM Stalin holds meet to review relief efforts in three rain-hit districts

The Chief Minister urged the officials to assess the damage accurately, and take measures to provide compensation to the affected people.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday held a meeting to review the precautionary and relief measures taken in view of the heavy rain in Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Thoothukudi districts.

In the meeting held at the Secretariat here, Mr. Stalin instructed authorities to monitor the flow in dams and issue alerts to members of the public before releasing water from reservoirs.

He further instructed them to relocate people residing in low-lying areas to safety.

The Chief Minister urged the officials to assess the damage accurately, and take measures to provide compensation to the affected people.

On the Chief Minister’s instructions, Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru and Minister for Revenue K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran are coordinating and expediting the relief measures in the affected districts, an official statement said.

Monitoring officers are also coordinating with the district administrations over relief measures, it added.

Response teams

One team each from the State Disaster Response Force has been sent to the districts, and a team of the National Disaster Response Force has been stationed in Tirunelveli district, it added.

Minister for Water Resources Duraimurugan, and Commissioner of Revenue Administration and Disaster Management Rajesh Lakhoni, among others, were present in the meeting.
