United Christian Forum organises Christmas celebrations in Belagavi

Christians belonging to various denominations gathered in large numbers on the Methodist Church premises in Belagavi to celebrate Christmas unitedly on Sunday.

The fest was organised by the All Karnataka United Christian Forum for Human Rights in collaboration with the Commission for Ecumenism and the Central Methodist Church of Belagavi.

Bishop Derek Fernandes presided over the programme in the presence of priests from various churches in the city.

The programme commenced with prayers in the evening. It was followed by Christmas carols and dances based on the story of the birth of Jesus Christ.

Teams belonging to various churches and schools in the city presented impressive presentations of carols, tableaux and songs based on Christmas in English and Kannada.

Bishop Derek Fernandes spoke of the teaching of Jesus Christ that means to spread love among fellow human beings.

“God so loved the world that he sent his only son. Thus Jesus Christ preached the commandments of love. Love your neighbour as you love yourselves as we are pilgrims of hope,” he said.

A large number of Christians belonging to different denominations were present.

Pastor Anand Rotti, Pastor Cherian, Fr. Philip Kutty, Fr. Pramod Kumar, Pastor Chillal and Clara Fernandes were among the organisers.

Youth and students belonging to St. Joseph’s Convent, St. Xavier’s High School, Methodist Church, Fatima Cathedral, Vanitha Vidyalaya High School and other churches in and around the city presented a cultural performance.
