Man drowns in Ponmar lake near Medavakkam

He was consuming alcohol on the bund and accidentally fell into the waterbody

A 56-year-old person drowned in the Ponmar lake near Medavakkam on Saturday. The Thalambur police have filed a case and are investigating. A senior official of the Tambaram Police Commissionerate said M. Dass of Ponmar worked as a daily wage labourer at construction sites. On Saturday, when he was consuming alcohol on the bund of the lake, he accidentally fell into it and drowned. The residents on Saturday evening found the body floating in the lake and informed the police, who rushed to the spot and retrieved the body. The police sent it to the Chengalpattu Government Hospital for a post-mortem.
