37 fishers from Poompuhar arrested by Sri Lankan Navy

A total of 37 fishermen from Poompuhar were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on Saturday on the charge of trespassing into the island nation’s waters. The fishermen had put out to sea from the Poompuhar fish landing centre on Friday night. They were intercepted by the Sri Lankan Navy while fishing, and taken to the Kankesanthurai Naval Base. The fishers had set sail on three mechanised boats.
