CPI (M) stages protest against ‘One Nation One Election’
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduThe Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday staged a protest in front of the Head Post Office in Dindigul condemning the BJP government for its idea of ‘One Nation One Election’ to hold simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and the State assemblies.
The CPI (M) party cadre said that the idea of ‘One Nation One Election’ was against federalism. It was a move by the BJP government to take away the powers of the States and establish a Unitary State. They said that the concept was against democracy and if it was implemented it would lead to turmoil.
Despite the opposition to the concept, the BJP government was desperate to implement it, the CPI (M) cadre said. The protest in Dindgul was led by its District Secretary K. Prabhakaran. Around 50 people participated in the protest. Similar protests were held by the CPI (M) cadre in other parts of the district including Palani.
