Police yet to ascertain reason behind murder of transgender community leader in Andhra’s Nellore

A day into the murder of transgender community leader Hasini at Tapathopu in Kodavaluru mandal,police continue to search for the killers and are yet to ascertain the reason behind the crime. She was attacked by around 10 unidentified persons late on Tuesday night, the Kodavalurupolice said.

Based on a complaint from Hasini’s father, the police registered a case under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Speaking to The Hindu, Kodavaluru inspector of police Surendra Babu said: “The body was sent to the [Nellore] Government General Hospital mortuary. The inquiry is on, and we will find the culprits. Though we received some information about the gang, their motive is unclear.”

Meanwhile, a large number of people from the transgender community staged a protest at the Government General Hospital, demanding justice for Hasini.
