Heightened security along Tripura border in view of BNP’s “long march”; situation remains peaceful
Tripura police described the situation at the Agartala ICP and other areas in the State as completely peaceful
by Syed Sajjad Ali · The HinduSecurity forces were deployed in strength at the Agartala Check Post on Wednesday (December 11, 2024) in anticipation of the “long march to Agartala” organised by three frontal organisations of the Bangladesh National Party (BNP). The march was called to protest the recent vandalism at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission and the disrespect shown to their national flag by members of the Hindu Sangharsh Samity in Agartala on December 3.
BSF, CRPF, TSR, and armed police contingents were deployed to tighten security around the ICP to prevent any infiltration and untoward incidents during the march. The entire security details were supervised by West Tripura Superintendent of Police Dr. Kiran Kumar K.

Police and intelligence sources here said the protest march concluded at the Akhaura rail junction area in Bangladesh, five kms from Agartala ICP at around 5:30 p.m.. BNP leaders and workers returned to Dhaka in a caravan of vehicles after attending a rally where they reportedly spoke out against alleged anti-Bangladesh activities from the Indian side.
Tripura police officers in the evening described the situation at the Agartala ICP and other areas in the State as completely peaceful although they are maintaining a watch in specific areas. The BSF has already been put on high alert along the State’s 856 borders with Bangladesh.
Despite increased surveillance, infiltration from across the border continues. Detentions are being made at the border and at various locations in the State, including railway stations and bus terminals, on a daily basis.
