Ganja peddler, seven consumers arrested in Banjara Hills

A 25-year-old food delivery agent was found to be a key player in ganja trade in Banjara Hills.

The West Zone of the Commissioner’s Task Force along with the Banjara Hills police arrested him and seven consumers during a raid on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Santhosh Kumar Rout, is a native of Odisha, and was working as a security guard and delivery boy in Hyderabad since 2021.

During the raid, police seized nine kilograms of ganja, two-wheelers, empty sachets, mobile phones and a weighing scale.

According to the police, he was operating in Banjara Hills, procuring ganja from a supplier named Govind of Phulbani district of Odisha, and selling it to customers.

18 kg ganja seized

In another instance, two people were arrested for trying to smuggle 18 kilograms of ganja from Shalimar in West Bengal to Mumbai via Secunderabad. Police said contraband worth ₹4.5 lakh was seized from the duo.

Pritam Chowdhury, 37, and Satyam Chowdhury, 29, both residents of West Bengal, were arrested during a check conducted by the Secunderabad Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) on Tuesday.

According to the police, the duo sourced ganja from an unidentified supplier in Shalimar and were transporting it to Mumbai.

The arrested individuals have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
