Leakage of question papers happened earlier too, but action was elusive

Though the Education department officials in Kozhikode had sent a report to the higher authorities, it was not reportedly taken seriously. Leakage of question papers through YouTube channels ahead of examinations in State syllabus schools is reported to have happened at least twice in the past one-and-a-half years.

Though the Education department officials in Kozhikode had sent a report to the higher authorities, it was not reportedly taken seriously.

According to sources, certain YouTube channels and online tuition centres, including the Koduvally-based M.S. Solutions, had run sessions showing “expected questions” before the half-yearly examinations in December 2023.

After the students found out that a majority of the questions in their question papers were those shown in the sessions, their viewers and subscribers shot up fast.

The show was repeated during the Onam examinations in September this year too.

Prompt alert

The sources said that though the teachers’ community and the Education department officials in Kozhikode promptly alerted their higher-ups and a report was sent, it did not make much headway.

Those running the YouTube channels took this as an opportunity to continue their activities and the question papers of Class X and Plus One examinations were leaked during the ongoing half-yearly examinations.

Teachers’ role

It is believed that a section of teachers and officials in aided and government schools may have been involved in the episode as the bundles of question papers for quarterly and half-yearly exams are opened there a day in advance to check discrepancies. They could have handed over the content to the those running the YouTube channels.

The sources said that the Deputy Director of Education (DDE), Kozhikode, has now lodged a complaint with the police and the Director of General Education. The DDE has sought action against the officials or teachers and steps to stop the broadcast of the YouTube channels that air such content.
