Minister reviews restoration works on highways in Tenkasi
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduTamil Nadu Minister of Public Works, Highways and Minor Ports E.V. Velu along with the Revenue and Disaster Management Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran chaired a review meeting here on Sunday.
The meeting focused on restoration works and ongoing projects under the highways department in Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Thoothukudi districts.
Speaking at the meeting Mr. Velu said, “An assessment of the damage caused by the rainfall to roads, causeways, and bridges in the Tenkasi district has been completed and officials are directed to restore the damaged roads promptly to ensure smooth and uninterrupted transportation for the public.”
At the meeting, he also reviewed the ongoing widening work of 47-km stretch between Tirunelveli, Sengottai and Kollam highways at a cost of ₹322 crore, railway overbridge project on Kollam-Thirumangalam Road, between Ilanji and Kuthukalvalasai at a cost of ₹ 53 crore and widening work of 34 km stretch from Puliyangudi to Kalugumalai.
Earlier in the day, the Minister inspected the ongoing construction of a glass bridge at a cost of ₹ 37 crore connecting Vivekananda Rock Memorial and Thiruvallauvar statue in Kanniyakumari district.
He noted that the construction work of the bridge, designed to allow visitors to walk between the Thiruvalluvar statue and Vivekananda rock memorial, is 95% complete and the remaining work is set to finish in the coming days.
The Minister also announced that a grand celebration marking Thiruvalluvar statue’s silver jubilee is planned for December 30 and 31 in Kanniyakumari.
