Student ‘bitten by rat’ in Khammam, hospitalised
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduA Class X student of the State-run BC Welfare Hostel at Danavaigudem in Khammam town, who was allegedly bitten by rats several times, was admitted to Mamata General Hospital in Khammam following severe swelling in her left leg.
Sources said that the student identified as Lakshmi Bhavani complained of swelling in her left leg and difficulty in walking a few days ago. As she showed worsening of symptoms, her family members admitted her to the hospital. Her condition is stated to be stable.
Sources close to her family alleged that she was bitten by rats at the hostel several times in the last couple of months and that she was administered anti-rabies vaccines. Official sources, however, said that the rat bite incident occurred once in February this year. Following the incident, all measures were taken to check rat menace by using rat trap boxes and glue pads in the hostel building.
Meanwhile, in a statement BRS leader and Rajya Sabha MP V Ravichandra alleged that the incident laid bare the sorry state of affairs in the BC Gurukul School. He demanded that the State government shift the ailing student, suffering from ‘paralysis symptoms’ , to Hyderabad and provide her better medicare.
