P.K. Krishnadas accuses Kerala govt. of inefficiency in rolling out rehabilitation plan for disaster-hit families

The State government should finalise the rehabilitation plan for the families in Chooralmala and Mundakkai in Wayanad before December 30, P.K. Krishnadas, member of BJP’s national executive committee, said here.

At a press conference held here on Monday, Mr. Krishnadas alleged that it was because of the inefficiency and lack of diligence of the State government that the rehabilitation plans for the families affected by the landslide has not progressed even one step, even though it has been four months since the disaster struck.

He accused the government of putting the blame for everything on the Centre to cover up its own inefficiency. He said that the government should stop using Wayanad disaster as a political weapon.

Mr. Krishnadas demanded that the government immediately call a meeting of those who had come forward promising help with rehabilitation in Wayanad. He also sought details of the money that had been expended by the government from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) for the disaster victims.

The Chief Minister should reveal the the funds that has come into the State Disaster Relief Fund and how much the government intended to spend for Wayanad.

The State does not seem to have a clear picture of the number of families that need to be rehabilitated or the extent of land that would be required to build houses for the displaced families. The government need not wait for Central funds to prepare the basic outline of the rehabilitation package, he said.

The State should come clean on the money that came into CMDRF, how much the government has so far used for Wayanad and the amount received from the Centre as emergency assistance.

Mr. Krishnadas said that the Centre has allocated ₹145.90 crore in the first phase, ₹145.90 crore again as the second lot and a third instalment of ₹153 crore.

He also accused the Opposition of forgetting their role and joining hands with the ruling party instead of calling them out.
