Minister lays stone for additional Siddha buildings at Salem hospital

Minister for Tourism R. Rajendran laid the foundation stone and inaugurated construction works for additional buildings for the Siddha department in Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital (GMKMCH) on Monday.

The Minister participated in the ground-breaking ceremony and inaugurated the construction works for the additional buildings. He also handed over the blankets for the patients to dean J. Devi Meenal.

Speaking at the function, the Minister said that the Chief Minister has announced various schemes like the Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam, Kalaignarin Varumun Kappom, and Innuyir Kappom to strengthen the medical infrastructure in the State. To increase the immune system in the body, through the Siddha system, the government is taking various preventive measures to protect people from seasonal diseases like dengue, chikungunya, and other diseases. Siddha medicines play a vital role. Through the Siddha department, preventive medicines were being provided. Medicinal plants are grown in the hospitals where the Siddha departments are functioning.

Stating that Siddha medicine departments are functioning in 70 places in the district, the Minister said that these departments are functioning at GMKMCH, government hospitals, and primary health centres.

Apart from this, an Unani centre is functioning at Karuppur; ayurveda centres are functioning at Panamarathupatti, Sarkar Kollapatti, Yethapur, and Arasiramani; and homeopathy centres are functioning at GMKMCH, Edappadi, and Attur government hospitals and Vadugapatti and Mallur PHCs.

On average, 80 to 120 people are using these centres every day. For pregnant women, Sanjeevi kits are distributed. Similarly, for school students, training is provided on yoga and food habits through PHCs, the Minister added.

District Collector R. Brindha Devi, GMKMCH Medical Superintendent R. Rajkumar, District Siddha Medical Officer Ramachandran, and officials participated.
