Strictly enforce food safety norms in all educational institutions: PDSU
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduStudents of the Government High School, NSC Colony, Khammam, on Thursday took a rally under the aegis of the PDSU town committee in Khammam demanding immediate steps to improve the quality of food being served under the mid-day meal scheme.
Schoolchildren displayed lunch boxes and plates during the rally that culminated in a dharna. Addressing the demonstration, the PDSU district secretary Venkatesh alleged that a series of food poisoning incidents including the one in Maganoor ZP High School in Narayanpet district exposed lack of proper monitoring of food safety and hygiene norms in several State-run schools including hostels in the State.
The tragic death of C. Shailaja, a student of the Tribal Welfare Residential School in Wankidi in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district, on Monday due to suspected food poisoning laid bare the sorry state of affairs in the residential educational institution, he charged. He demanded that the State government ensure regular inspection of quality of food and hygiene standards in all educational institutions to safeguard the health of students.
