Maalakaraddi recalls Krishna sanctioning barrages to help farmers of Yadgir dist.

by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduThe former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna, who passed away in Bengaluru due to prolonged illness on Tuesday, has left his mark on Yadgir district by implementing significant development projects in the irrigation sector.
Two major rivers flow through the district. However, farmers were suffering losses owing to lack of irrigation.
Considering this, during 1999-2004, the then Ministers in the Krishna Cabinet, Mallikarjun Kharge and A.B. Maalakaraddi, explained to their Chief Minister the need for the construction of bridge-cum-barrages to irrigate dry land in the district.
“Immediately, Mr. Krishna sanctioned bridge-cum-barrages at Sannati, Gursunagi, Joladadagi, Kadarapur and Chiganur to irrigate thousands of acres of dry land. He wished the farmers a happy life when he came for the inauguration of the barrages,” Dr. Maalakaraddi has recalled.
Apart from irrigation projects, Mr. Krishna also inaugurated the Narayanpur Left Bank Canal and the Kembhavi Bus Stand and upgraded the Yadgir Ttaluk Hospital to 100 beds.
“The State has lost a visionary administrator and a gentleman politician,” Dr. Maalakaraddi added.
The former Minister Baburao Chinchanur, who handled seven portfolios in Krishna’s Cabinet, also recalled his association with the departed soul and expressed his condolences.
Minister for Small Scale Industries Sharanabasappa Darshanapur, MLAs Channareddy Patil Tunnur, Sharanagouda Kandkur, Raja Venugopal Naik, the former MLA Narasimha Naik, Guru Patil, Basareddy Malipatil Anpur, Siddappa Hotti, Lalita Anpur and others recalled the former Chief Minister’s contribution to the development of the district and mourned his demise.
