Kalaburagi: House set on fire over land dispute, five of family rescued

Following a dispute over agricultural land, a miscreant tried to kill five members of a family by setting their house on fire by pouring petrol in Kadani village of Kalaburagi district on Thursday.

The accused identified as Shivalingappa H. Karikal is absconding. Family members, including Gunderao Karikal, his wife Sarubai, daughter-in-law Muktabai, and granddaughters Lakshmi and Nandana were rescued from the fire and admitted to the hospital.

According to sources, five years ago, the accused Shivalingapa had sold four acres of land to Gunderao and received a sum of ₹13 lakh as advance. Later, there was a dispute between both over the registration of the land. Shivalingapa barged into Gunderao’s house and set his house on fire.

The panic-stricken family members locked themselves in a room. The accused fled the spot. The neighbours rescued the family and rushed them to the hospital. A case has been registered at Farhatabad police station.
