Madras HC disposes of plea to create awareness among parents, children

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has directed the Director of State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) to consider the representation made in 2021 by a petitioner to include Child Helpline number, provisions relating to the protection of children from sexual offences and fundamental duties and rights of citizens in school syllabus.

A Division Bench of Justices M.S. Ramesh and A.D. Maria Clete observed that in order to create awareness among parents and students of the rights and the duties from the school level, the petitioner had made the representation to the authorities in 2021. The court directed the authorities to consider the representation and pass orders, and disposed of the public interest litigation petition filed by T. Senthil of Madurai.
