Three days of the legislature session will be set aside for discussing issues related to north Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Sunday.

He told reporters at Ron in Gadag district that members will be requested not only to raise issues, but to explore solutions to pending problems of the region. The special discussion will held on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said on Sunday that the government was open to discussing issues of north Karnataka, but the BJP did not seem interested.

Speaking to reporters at Hubballi airport, the KPCC president said that it was clear from its conduct in the two Houses that the BJP was not interested in discussing issues related to Kalyana Karnataka or Kittur Karnataka.

Divided party

“There is no unity among BJP leaders. They are faction ridden. They have no clear plan for discussions on the floor of the House. They are only interested in playing politics over every issue. They are not at all interested in development,’‘ Mr. Shivakumar said in response to a query.

About the Mahadayi project, Mr. Shivakumar said that Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar had to ensure that Karnataka gets all permits and approvals. “The State government has made all preparations to take up the project. The work will start as soon as the approvals are received,” he said.

“A few days ago, I met Union Forest Minister Bhupender Yadav and requested him to speed up approvals for our proposals. I have also met and discussed the issue with Mr. Joshi. He told me that he had discussed with the Forest Minister and made a similar request,’‘ he said.

“When the State government announced the Mekedatu project, Mr. Shettar and Mr. Joshi welcomed and even celebrated it. Now they have to take the lead and help us get all approvals from the Union government,” he said.
