by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduTamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. Selvaperunthagai on Thursday announced the appointment of Peter Alphonse, Chairman of the State Minorities Commission and former Rajya Sabha member, as overall in-charge of the party’s effort to revamp and reenergise its village committees.
“The party initiated its efforts to revamp the village committees last month. Now we have announced a structure to oversee and complete the activities,” he told reporters in Chennai.
For the 39 Parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu, the party has divided 3 constituencies as one zone and appointed convenors for the 13 zones. “We have also appointed co-ordinators for the 39 parliamentary constituencies and will soon appoint co-ordinators for the 234 assembly constituencies,” Mr. Selvaperunthagai said.
Two persons have been appointed at the headquarters level to monitor the work.

Kalaignar Kaivinai Thittam is a more inclusive scheme and totally different from the Centre’s Vishwakarma scheme, he said.
