BJP-Janata Dal(S) opposing Govt’s efforts to empower poor: Siddaramaiah
The BJP is spreading lies that there is no money for development, according to the Chief Minister
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduThe Opposition is obstructing the government’s efforts at empowering the poor by constantly indulging in dividing people on the lines of caste and religion, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Sunday.
“The welfare and development works of our government are clearly visible to the people. But then the BJP is spreading lies that there is no money for development,” he said, after launching development works worth nearly ₹200 crore at Ron in Gadag district.
“This year, the State government has allocated ₹1,20,000 crore for development. We are also carrying out various welfare and social security programmes by spending over ₹52,000 crore. Most of this money goes directly into the hands of the people through our guarantee programmes. But then the BJP is spreading lies,” he said.
“The BJP leaders are falsely claiming there is no money for development. They are repeating the baseless lies in the face of the successful implementation of these programmes. However, the people of the State are not fools to believe these lies,” the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister said that over 4.5 crore people in the State are directly benefiting from the guarantee schemes.
To support his claims, he cited the example of Mamubi Maldar and her daughter-in-law Roshan Begum who pooled money from the Gruha Lakshmi payments to drill a borewell in Gajendragad of Gadag district. He congratulated them and called them an example to society.
He inaugurated a millet processing unit in Ron. He said that the State government is promoting the cultivation and consumption of millets in a big way.
Stating that he has received demands to include MLA J.S. Patil in the Cabinet, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that he (Mr. Patil) is a good leader and deserves to be a Minister. “The only time he comes to me is when he has to discuss development works in his constituency,” he said.
