Land acquisition process in full swing in Old City for metro rail second phase
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduThe land acquisition for about 1,100 identified process for metro rail in Old City has been accelerated as per the orders of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on the nearly seven-and-a-half kilometre-long MGBS-Chandrayangutta route for the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail, informed Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) MD N.V.S. Reddy on Sunday.
He revealed that requisitions for 900 properties have already been submitted to the Hyderabad District Collector Anudeep Durisetty under the Land Acquisition Act and the Collector has in turn issued preliminary notifications for 800 properties in phases.
The Collector has also completed issuing the preliminary declaration for 400 properties out of the notified properties. He further informed that the awards for compensation for 200 affected properties would be completed by the end of this month.
Thereafter, compensation will be paid immediately and demolition work will begin and this will smoothen the construction of the metro rail route in Old City. The Congress government has proposed to take up the second phase for 76.4 km across five corridors, including to the international airport at Shamshabad, which will cost ₹24,269 crore under a joint venture proposed with the Central government with majority of funding coming as loans from multilateral agencies.
Mr. Reddy stated that negotiations are also being held with the owners of the affected properties simultaneously. He clarified that during the road expansion and metro construction, all religious and historical structures are being protected with engineering solutions during the piers, viaducts and stations construction.
The MD, while pointing out that the Chief Minister has been according top priority to the project and especially the Old City route, asserted that with the arrival of the metro rail into the Old City, this region will become ‘very attractive’. It will also generate employment opportunities and more development without pollution.
The ongoing land acquisition process is being jointly reviewed by the MD along with Hyderabad Collector on a daily basis and Mr. Revanth Reddy too is being apprised about the progress from time to time, said a press release.
