Experts highlight role of the Constitution in good governance

Various organisations organised mass reading of the preamble pledge to mark Constitution Day celebrations on Wednesday.

Pondicherry University’s School of Law organised a function to mark the anniversary. In his Constitution Day address, L.S. Sathyamurthy, Secretary (Law), Government of Puducherry highlighted the Constitutional perspectives of good governance by apprising the gathering about the role of the Constitution in ensuring good governance in India. The rights doctrine as available to the citizens springs from strong government actions only, he said.

This was followed by a reading of the preamble by K. Tharanikkarasu, Vice-Chancellor of the university. Victor Anandkumar, Dean (in-charge) and Gurminder Kaur, Head of Law (in-charge), also spoke. During the event, commemorative photographs of the members of Constituent Assembly along with the reproduction of the original preamble were also released.

The NSS unit of Pondicherry University along with the Reservation Cell hosted the garlanding of the portrait of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Statutory officers, senior faculty members, deans, heads, staff, scholars and students of various departments of the University participated.

At Jipmer, a gathering of doctors, nurses, students and staff chorused the preamble pledge to commemorate the 75th year of the adoption of the Constitution of India and to honour and acknowledge the contributions of the founding fathers.

Functions were organised at the administrative block, hospital building and academic centre, a press note said.

A copy of the preamble of the Constitution was given to the participants. The preamble was read out in Tamil, Hindi and English. Banners were displayed at various places on the campus.

At NLC India Limited (NLCIL), the preamble was read out by Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD and Functional Directors.

Addressing the employees, Mr. Motupalli called for dedication and commitment to the Constitution that was created surmounting various challenges like diversity and other constraints. It is the collective responsibility of all to follow its core values and take the country forward, he said.

Appakannu Govindarajan, CVO, Samir Swarup, Director (HR), M. Venkatachalam, Director (Power), executive directors, senior officials and employees of NLCIL participated in the function.

A presentation ‘Know our Constitution’, elucidating the basic tenets of the document was made by D.V.S. Narayana Murthy, ED/Legal, CSR and Medical Branch on the occasion.
