Flays BJP for supporting Panchamsali agitation on the issue

A.H. Vishwanath, MLC, has urged the State government to review the implementation of reservation under 2A category in the State.

Speaking to media persons here on Thursday Mr. Vishwanath said the entire 2A category has been infringed upon by various communities to claim reservation benefits. He said originally there were only 15 subcastes that were included under it but over the years many other sub-castes too have got the community included making a mockery of the system.

He said there seemed to be no coherent policy on the issue and it was time the Siddaramaiah government reviewed the entire process. The Minister for Social Welfare H.C. Mahadevappa came under flak for not taking up the issue and said the entire process should be reviewed to weed out those not deserving of the reservation under 2A category which was being claimed by people from other castes and subcastes.

“It is not enough to make speeches on B.R. Ambedkar and Constitution. It is imperative to assess how the constitutional mechanisms were being implemented in their true spirit. You are not a Minister to deliver speeches, you must work,” he said referring to Mahadevappa.

Mr. Vishwanath also lashed out at the BJP for supporting the Panchamsali demand for their inclusion under 2A category and said it was political party bereft of any ideals and principles. ‘’They oppose anything for the sake of opposing the government,” he added.
