Keir Starmer interrupted by heckler in first Labour Party Conference speech as PM
by Ian Hughes · Manchester Evening NewsKeir Starmer was interrupted by a heckler in his first Labour Party conference speech as Prime Minister.
Sir Keir, who swept to victory with a 174-seat majority in July’s general election, delivered his hour-long address in Liverpool on the final full day of the party conference.
In a wide-ranging speech, which comes a year after a protester got on stage and covered the Labour leader in glitter, Mr Starmer was again interrupted. As the PM crossed over the hour mark, a man was seen standing and shouting on the conference hall floor.
He could not be heard clearly from the microphones on stage, but reports from inside the hall suggested he used the words ‘children of Gaza’.

The Prime Minister responded to him by saying: “This guy obviously has a pass from the 2019 conference. We have changed the party. While he has been protesting, we have been changing. That’s why we have a Labour government.”
The speech also came a day after Chancellor Rachel Reeves ruled out returning to austerity — but questions remain on how ambitious the new government will be given the state of public finances.
While his overall message was there is ‘light at the end of this tunnel’, the PM called on Brits to join a ‘shared struggle’ through short-term pain.
