A 'lovely' teenager tragically died after an accident at a railway station where he fell to his death. Nathan Carter, 18, suffered the fatal fall following a night out in the early hours of Sunday, January 21.

Speaking at an inquest into his death, held at Bradford Coroner's Court, Assistant Coroner Angela Brocklehurst reiterated what a 'lovely boy' Nathan was and referred to his popularity, passion for football which included trips to matches with his father, time spent with friends, and a penchant for dressing smartly.

She offered words of comfort to his parents: "Think of the good times, happy times with laughter and their loving son", reports Yorkshire Live.

Nathan's football club, Liversedge FC, where he played for the under-18s team, honoured the memory of their left-winger during a cup match against Golcar United.

Tragic incident

The hearing heard that on the night of his death, Nathan, from Kirklees, had consumed cocaine and alcohol, with a level of 207mg per 100ml in his bloodstream – over double the legal driving limit in the UK.

He had been asked to leave a nightclub due to being 'very drunk, swaying on the dance floor and could barely speak', an inquest into his death heard.

Nathan's family had raised concerns about the amount of alcohol served to him at Maggie's nightclub on Commercial Street, Halifax. However, it was noted that Nathan and his friends had been alternating between Maggie's and The Acapulco Nightclub on Waterhouse Street throughout the evening.

At 3.02am, Nathan was escorted out of Maggie's by the bouncers. He then made his way to Halifax station, which was unmanned at the time, and was captured on CCTV walking to the end of a platform.

His body was discovered later that morning in an alleyway next to the train station by a passing cyclist. It is believed he climbed a high wall overlooking the alleyway, located between the station and the Nestle factory, before falling to his death.

West Yorkshire Police investigated Nathan's death but found no third-party involvement. His cause of death was recorded as a head injury and a fall from height due to cognitive impairment, a serious error of judgement, caused by high levels of alcohol and cocaine use.
