Injured person 'taken to safety' as emergency crews descend on train tracks

Police, paramedics and fire crews descended on Hag Fold train station in Atherton to a 'report of a casualty on the tracks' at around 7am this morning (Monday). The train lines between Wigan Wallgate/Wigan North Western and Salford Crescent were blocked as the emergency services responded to the incident.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said a 'person was found with injuries'. They were 'taken to a place of safety to receive medical care'.

The spokesperson added that there were not believed to any suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident. Train services between Manchester Piccadilly and Wigan were cancelled earlier as the lines were blocked, with disruption on Northern services until around 10am.
In a statement, a BTP spokesperson said: "Officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks just after 7am this morning (18 November) at Hag Fold Railway Station near Atherton. Officers, paramedics and fire service attended and a person was found with injuries and has been taken to a place of safety to receive medical care.
"The incident is not thought to be suspicious."
