Neighbourhood in shock after horror stabbing leaves man in hospital

An eerie quiet hangs over Albert Fildes Walk in Cheetham Hill. On Saturday night someone was stabbed outside an address on the street, with police being called to the scene at around 10.30pm.

A cordon was put in place around a property in which there were three forensics tents, one white and two blue.

Police were still at the scene on Sunday afternoon, as some members of the local community began arriving at mosque. The community has been left shocked by what happened.

A man in his 20s is understood to have been taken to hospital. Police have not made any arrests at this stage.

One resident told the Manchester Evening News: "The people in this area are very peaceful and very loving. I don't know how it's happened. It's very strange.

"Whoever has done this is regrettable. Hopefully it can be dug out. If you do something wrong and think it will remain hidden, it won't."

Another neighbour said that sadly they were not surprised by the turn of events. They said: "My wife said she heard something noisy. You kind of get used to this kind of stuff around here. There's always something going on, so it doesn't surprise me to be honest."

Someone else shared: "It's not a very nice area, I'm getting out of here. I'm here 18 years, that's the first time I've seen that."

One resident said that their sister had heard something, but they weren't sure if it was something else. They said: "My sister said she heard a man shout, at about 2am. She woke up and closed her window and said she couldn't see anything."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police told the M.E.N.: "At around 10.30pm last night (Saturday 14 December 2024), we were called to reports of a stabbing on Albert Fildes Walk in Cheetham Hill, Manchester.

"Emergency services attended and a man in his 20s was taken to hospital and remains there in a stable but serious condition. No arrests have been made at this stage.

"A scene has been established while officers conduct initial enquiries. Additional officers are in the area, if you have any concerns at all, please don't hesitate to speak to them."
