Man and woman arrested as boy, 12, seriously injured after being hit by BMW

A man and a woman from Manchester have been arrested for drug driving after a boy was knocked down by a BMW.

The 12-year-old suffered serious injuries in the crash in Lancashire on Thursday night. Police say he was hit by a BMW 320D at the Baylton Drive junction of Preston Old Road in Catterall at around 9.50pm.

He remains where his injuries are described as serious, but not thought to be life-threatening or changing at this time.

A 24-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, both from Manchester, have been arrested on suspicion of drug driving. Police are appealing for witnesses.

Sgt Laura Kendall said: "This collision has left a young boy with some very serious injuries. My thoughts remain with him as he is treated in hospital.

"Whilst two arrests have been made, our enquiries are ongoing. Part of those enquiries is reviewing CCTV and dashcam footage of the area.

"This is where we ask you for help. If you have any footage of the incident or vehicle between 9.50pm and 9.55pm, or witnessed the collision, please get in contact."
