McDonald's staff 'ignore' drive-thru customers who say one word, worker says

by · Manchester Evening News

A McDonald's employee has shed light on a common drive-thru customer behaviour that could result in them being ignored.

The seemingly ordinary action was criticised as "rude" by a McDonald's worker on TikTok. The user, known as @maccaworkaddict, posted a video of herself dancing with the caption: "You can't keep ignoring the car in the drive-thru because they screamed hello as soon as they get there."

This annoyance stems from the fact that staff receive a buzzing alert when a car arrives at the intercom, so customers don't need to say 'hello' upon arrival.

While some TikTok users agreed with her, others criticised her stance. She clarified that her videos are "all a joke" and not to be taken seriously, reports the Irish Mirror.

She also suggested that if customers have pulled up and no one has addressed them, it's acceptable to try and grab an employee's attention.

Another drive-thru worker commented: "Each time they say hello I make them wait another 10 seconds lol."

A former Burger King employee shared: "I hated this working at Burger King especially when this customer be out there sitting there yelling soon as I put the headset on. " Another added: "I relate wholeheartedly. I do this, or immediately reply, 'Yes, How Can I Help You? I'm making it known I'm irritated. "

But one user said: "I say hello because I don't know if they know I'm there."
