"She had the kindest soul": Family's tribute to woman, 30, killed after being hit by car while crossing the road

The family of a 30-year-old woman who was killed after being hit by a car in Bury have described her as the 'kindest soul' in a touching tribute for her.

The horrific crash happened on Manchester Road on the evening of October 2. A woman was rushed to hospital from the scene with 'life-threatening injuries' after being struck by a Peugeot 108 as she crossed the road, police said.

Sadly, she died in hospital on last Monday (October 7). The woman has now been named as Amy McNicholas, with her family paying tribute to 'loving daughter'.

In a statement issued through Greater Manchester Police, Amy's loved ones said she 'always had a smile on her face'. She was 'caring to everyone she knew', they added.

Amy's family said: "We are heartbroken at the loss of our loving daughter Amy who tragically passed away so unexpectedly. She was the kindest soul and a pleasure to always be around, our family will have a part missing now she is gone.

"She was caring to everyone she knew and always had a smile on her face. Amy will be forever loved and missed by all that knew her."

Floral tributes have also been left at the scene of the crash, near to the junction with Dumers Lane. One said: "No words will ever be enough to say how missed you will be. Shine bright lovely."

Another tribute read: "To see your name on the board at work always made my day. Thankful to of [sic] met you and I'll cherish our memories. I hope you are at peace. Shine bright beautiful girl. We will miss you. Goodnight god bless."

Another said: "Gone from our sights but never from our hearts. Rest in peace."

The driver of the Peugeot - a 57-year-old woman - stopped on the scene after the smash. She was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by driving without due care and attention.

She has since been released on bail, police confirmed. An investigation into the crash is continuing, with any witnesses or anyone with footage urged to contact GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU).

PC Liam Farrelly, from the SCIU, said: "Firstly, our thoughts are with the loved ones of the woman that has tragically lost her life. Specialist officers have been deployed to help her family through this very difficult time.

"We are continuing to investigate, and I would ask for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward if you haven’t done so already. We are keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam, mobile phone or doorbell footage, from the area in the moments leading up to the collision."
