Renters ask 'is this a joke?' after spotting 'obstacle course' in bedroom of one-bed apartment

by · Manchester Evening News

Renters have been left baffled after coming across a property with a 'ridiculous' feature which has been likened to an 'obstacle course'. The one-bed apartment in Sheffield, which is up for rent at £825 per month, has caused a stir online after social media users spotted a 'hazard' in the bedroom.

The accommodation, which is suitable for a student or professional with it being close to the university and hospital, sits on the first floor of Riverside Apartments in Kelham Island.

For £825 per calendar month, tenants get a 'part-furnished' flat which is described as having 'lots of character'. Estate agents say it 'must be viewed to appreciate the living space and layout'.

The Rightmove listing for the property, which is being marketed by Shefflets reads: "This amazing first floor apartment really is a little bit special Situated in Kelham Island in a great location close to all the bars, cafes and restaurants, you are also within walking distance of the city centre, hospitals and universities.

"You enter the apartment into a good sized hallway, to your left is the modern shower room which is part tiled with a large walk in cubicle. The hallway leads to a fabulous open plan living / kitchen / dining room that has great views over the river, this room really is a great combination of modern and traditional. The kitchen has a range of units and some integrated appliances. There is also the added benefit of some built in storage."

But it is upstairs where people have noticed a strange addition to the bedroom. Photos show an extremely low beam which cuts across the room, which would likely cause an inconvenience and potential hazard.

The listing addresses this, as it continues: "Stairs from the hallway take you up to the bedroom which is on a mezzanine overlooking the living area, this is an amazing space with original beams adding character to an already fabulous room (please note the beams are at a low level).

"This really is the perfect apartment for someone wanting something a little bit different in one of the best locations in Sheffield. Must be viewed to appreciate the living space and layout."

People say they look 'dangerous' and like an 'obstacle course'

One Reddit user has now taken to the site to share the property in a subreddit, which has attracted lots of attention. @loochops wrote: "Is this a joke? Commando crawl/hurdles to get to bed, and a labelled OSB sofa, for £825pcm in Kelham island."

@nice1seeya responded: "That is quite possibly the most ridiculous space I've seen. They'd have been better just reinforcing the frame and opening it surely."

@Radical_Way2070 commented: "I'm sure someone out there would really appreciate the obstacle course in their bedroom though," as @Potential_Cover1206 added: "Going to bed after a night out is going to be entertainingly dangerous......".

@AngloKiwi then asked: "How is that not some sort of building code violation? Trying to escape that during a house fire just looks like a death trap," as @Armand28 joked: “I’m tired, I think I’ll limbo to bed. Night all!”

Some Reddit users also highlighted the chipboard sofa with @loochops writing: "Such a bad excuse for a sofa they had to label it," as @Various-Storage-31 added: "SOFA carved into the sofa, because its almost unidentifiable as such."
