BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Nick Knowles two-word injury update as show future in doubt

by · Manchester Evening News

Nick Knowles has spoken out about the injury that has thrown his Strictly Come Dancing journey into doubt after being seen with his arm in a sling.

The DIY SOS star was seen making his dancing debut in the BBC One dance contest on Saturday night (September 21) alongside his professional dance partner Luba Mushtuk as they opened the first live show of the 2024 series with a jive to We Built This City by Starship.

But after impressing with his opening performance, during a day off on Sunday (September 22), Nick picked up an injury. He explained in a video posted to Instagram on Monday (September 23) that his car broke down over the weekend at the side of a motorway.

With his young son in the car, Nick endeavoured to change the tyre as quickly as possible for both of their safety. However, in the process, the TV star says he "managed to damage my shoulder and arm a little bit" and was going for scans to check what, if any, the damage was.

He's now appeared on Strictly's spin-off It Takes Two and gave an update with co-host Janette Manrara, with him seen still using a sling. When the presenter hinted that they're still unsure whether he would be able to dance this weekend in week two of the competition, Nick had a different response.

He said: "I'm hopeful!" As Janette said 'that was the attitude', Nick added: "I'll find out more tomorrow (Tuesday) but I'm full expecting to go into training and I'm really hopeful that I'll be dancing on Saturday."

It was then revealed that Nick and Luba's upcoming dance, if it is to go ahead, will be an American Smooth to Blur's Parklife. Asked how she was planning to work with Nick due to his injury, Luba said she wanted to sparkle-up Nick's sling before saying: "I'll work around it, I'll make it work!"
