by · Manchester Evening News

Miranda Hart has opened up about the 'dark days' she faced having battled a chronic illness in private for 10 years. The comedian and actress, who appeared in her own semi-autobiographical sitcom Miranda, went public with her secret illness in August.

She will now reveal all about the debilitating illness in her new book I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You, which is out on Thursday (October 10) and hopes that by telling the story of her health struggles in her upcoming memoir it will help others going through tough times.

When first talking about her health over the summer as she revealed her new book, Miranda at first joked she had "lost all of the midlife weight that was lumped on in the last three years". She then whispered: "I haven’t," before pointing to the title of her book.

"But can I just say I’m actually really quite proud of the fact that I’ve dismantled quite a lot of shame about my weight gain, not that because I don’t think bigger is beautiful, but because it isn’t quite me and I feel really uncomfortable and it’s one of the things I talk about in there," she added before telling fans to make sure to pre-order it.

Now, teasing what fans can expect from the book, the 51-year-old told, according to the Mirror: "It centres on the passion – the inner fire – I’ve stoked over 10 very challenging years, shining a light on chronic illness and those who live with it as I have.

"I’m blessed to have found a path to recovery, a path that was incredibly hard won and a fire tended to day in and day out as I navigated both the medical and holistic health worlds, as well as my own inner landscape, to find a way out of the dark."

Writing in her column for Good Housekeeping magazine, she continued: "I hope, my lovely reader chum, that if you’re living with chronic illness, or you know someone who is (though I think the treasures I found in darkness apply to most of us), you’ll come and sit a while by this fire of mine and take some of its warmth and comfort into whatever the winter months bring.

"My book is the story of a woman reaching midlife and coming to terms with an undiagnosed health condition. Though fear not, it’s a story of hope and redemption as well as something of a practical and philosophical guide for recovery from difficult conditions and situations. Spoiler alert: the woman gets well, and the woman is… me! Yes, it’s a memoir of sorts."
