Woman quit job after boyfriend's ex bombarded her with nasty texts and sent bizarre package to her workplace

by · Manchester Evening News

An NHS worker was forced out of her job after being bombarded with texts labelling her a 'homewrecker'. Andrea Savage, 55, sent the messages to the woman for three days last Christmas after discovering she was in a relationship with her ex-husband following their separation in 2020.

Savage sent demands for her to pay for the divorce and taunts suggesting her ex-husband still loved her. The situation escalated when Savage sent a parcel to her victim's workplace. The parcel contained A4 printouts of 100 texts shared with her ex-husband. Savage claimed the pair were messaging while she and her husband were still together.

The woman said she felt 'physically sick'. The harassment made her so uncomfortable she left her job, despite having worked for the NHS for 20 years.

In a statement to the police, the former NHS worker said: ''I've been caused months of stress and I still cannot understand why Andrea went to such length to intimidate me and scare me, goading me about [her ex-husband's] love for her.

"I did not know what to expect as she had made threats to contact my manager which caused me anxiety. I worked for the NHS, I had done so for 20 years and I had good professional relationships. I loved my job.

"However, I now felt uncomfortable doing my job in the community in case I was targeted by Andrea. It's been emotionally overwhelming and I have found Andrea provocative, vindictive, nasty, and unpredictable and this has left me dealing with feelings of fearfulness and anxiety every day since the last year."

At Warrington Magistrates' Court, Savage was convicted of harassment. She wept as she was sentenced to a year-long community order with a requirement she undertakes up to 10 rehabilitation activity days.

She was ordered to pay a £200 fine; £764 in costs; and a victim surcharge. Savage and was banned from contacting her victim and ex-husband for a year under the terms of a a restraining order. Savage denied any wrongdoing and claimed her former partner had been unfaithful to her with her victim during their marriage.

Prosecuting, Gayle McCoubrey, said: "The defendant sent text messages to [Savage's victim] accusing her of being a homewrecker. She also called her transgender and told her to pay for a divorce. Several times, [Savage's victim] asked her to stop messaging but she continued to send text messages."

Savage, representing herself, told the hearing: "While he was dating [Savage's victim], he was still dating me. He left me for her. He was still with me. I did send her some text messages, but I did not think that was harassment. She had been abusive to me as well."

She said she didn't want to contact her ex-husband or her victim and was happy with the restraining order. District Judge John Rowan told her: "Your account was that while you did accept sending the messages to [Savage's victim] it was a two-way street - you did not cause her harassment and you would not have foreseen that she would be caused harassment. But that was not accepted."

The judge acknowledged the upset and anxiety caused by the messages Savage sent to her victim, Adding: "But I have read from those who know you, you are described as a good mother, a good person, and how this matter has and will continue to have an impact on you. But the impact on the complainant in these matters cannot be understated."
