Pregnant cow saved by firefighters after getting stuck in family's swimming pool
by Phoebe Jobling · Manchester Evening NewsA pregnant cow was rescued by firefighters after it found itself trapped inside a family's swimming pool. The incident occurred at a residential property in Ketton, Rutland, where the unfortunate animal had taken an unexpected plunge into the deep end.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service responded to the emergency call on Ketco Avenue at approximately 12:40pm on Monday November 11). Upon arrival, they found the cow in water depths of between 2ft and 3ft and proceeded to drain the pool.
Using a downer cow harness, designed to protect the animal's udders, the technical rescue crew managed to hoist the cow to safety. After the ordeal, which lasted over three hours with the crew leaving just before 4pm, a vet was called to check on its health.

The fire service took to social media to share the unusual rescue, humorously suggesting that the cow had fancied a spa day but then couldn't manage to leave.
Their post read: "No day is the same! Yesterday, Southern Station were called out to a residential swimming pool in Rutland where a pregnant heifer had checked herself in for a spa day! The only problem is, she couldn't check herself out."
Blue Watch drained the pool and then lifted her to safety using a downer cow harness; a piece of equipment designed to protect her udders. Hopefully that will be her last swim of the season."
A spokesperson for the fire service also mentioned: "The farmer has arranged for her to be kept an eye on."
