Winter Fuel Payment: Aldi's 22p an hour heater could save shoppers hundreds on heating bills in cold winter months

by · Manchester Evening News

As the weather gets colder, many of us are struggling with the age-old battle: when to turn the heating on. While it would be nice to be a bit cosier, the prospect of rocketing heating bills doesn't make it a hugely attractive prospect.

But luckily, there are things you can do to warm up your house without spending a whole lot of money on central heating. For just £24.99, you can find Aldi's Kirkton House Fan Heater online here - a small but powerful freestanding gadget that will heat up any room in no time.

The budget heater has two settings, that operate at either 1000W or 2000W, meaning it costs just 22p or 45p to run an hour. You can easily move it from room to room, and it oscillates to warm up a wide area.

It comes as part of Aldi's Specialbuys range, which is available in-store on October 20. And it's not the only product on offer that could save you a bit of cash this autumn. The Silentnight Thermal Mattress Cover costs just £9.99 and adds an impressive extra three tog of warmth to your bed. It's made from a cosy teddy fleece fabric - all you have to do is add it as an extra layer on top of your mattress.

There's also the Ambiano Heated Airer, which costs £34.99. Not only will this mean your laundry dries in no time, but when it's on, it emits a friendly warmth that will make any room cosier. Operating at 230W, it costs just 5p to run an hour.

And finally, Aldi will also have the Ambiano Heated Throw, which costs £29.99. With nine adjustable temperature levels to choose from, you can tailor it to how cosy you want to feel. It comes in chic dark grey, light grey and cream options - not only does it look elegant draped over a sofa, but it'll become your new best friend during dark and cold evenings.

While there aren't any specific reviews for these products on the Aldi website, some shoppers have shared their thoughts elsewhere. A reviewer on Mumsnet said back in 2022 of their Aldi heated throw: "Absolutely love mine. Good for that time of the evening before the heating kicks in." Another reviewer added: "I'm sat under the Aldi heated blanket. It's lovely." While a YouTube video from Joanne Wright dubbed it the "best invention ever". Another reviewer said on their blog of a similar Aldi heated throw back in 2019: "This throw is not only snugly from the heat it generates from its heating function, but also a comforting element from the feel of the throw itself too."

While it's difficult to find critiques of these products due to the lack of reviews, there are surely a few things to be wary of. While some people might love the warmth of a heated throw, others might not enjoy how hot they can get. And for the fan heater - it's a useful addition to your house, but not the prettiest thing to have sitting on your floor.

If you did want to shop around, you can get the Russell Hobbs Portable Fan Heater in black from Currys for £19.99 (down from £28.99). Alternatively, Dunelm has a snuggly Teddy Electric Throw for £40 in various colours.
