24 hours of bloody horror on Greater Manchester's streets with double murder probe and three stabbings

There has been 24 hours of horror on Greater Manchester's streets, as police launched a double murder inquiry and responded to three stabbings.

Officers were called to Tottington in Bury just before midnight yesterday. A man continues to fight for his life after being stabbed.

Hours later, police were called to Moss Side at 5am after two men were fatally stabbed. This afternoon, police responded to two further stabbings.

Officers rushed to Peter Street in Manchester city centre at 4pm, while there was another knifing in Unsworth, Bury, at 4.15pm. Police have made arrests in relation to all incidents, except the stabbing in Unsworth.

Officers were called to a 'disturbance' in Bury at 11.30pm last night.

The Swan Hotel in Tottington has been closed all day in connection with the incident. This afternoon, Greater Manchester Police released a statement to say they were called to reports of a 'disturbance'. A man said to be aged in his late 40s had suffered serious injuries. The force said the injuries are believed to be 'life-threatening'.

Police said arrests have been made in connection with the incident. The emergency services were then called out to Great Southern Street, in Moss Side, at 5am today.

It followed reports that two men had been stabbed. Tragically, they were both pronounced dead at the scene, despite the best efforts of first responders. A 23-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police said they are not looking for anyone else after arresting the suspect. This afternoon, officers were called to Peter Street in Manchester city centre at 4pm, after a 31-year-old man had been knifed. Police taped off an area outside Albert's Schloss following the incident this afternoon.

The incident happened outside the venue. GMP said a 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm. The man's condition is being described as serious, but not life-threatening.

Just 15 minutes later, officers were called to Sawley Avenue in Unsworth, Bury, after a man was seen 'bleeding on the floor' after he was reportedly stabbed.

Police were called to the scene at 4.15pm. Officers attended to reports of a knife attack on a nearby footpath. The victim, a man in his 40s, was rushed to hospital from the scene, suffering with serious injuries.

Greater Manchester Police called a press conference this afternoon following the murder probe in Moss Side. Chief Superintendent Dave Meeney told reporters: "We understand the shockwaves that this devastating news will have caused in the local community and further afield across Greater Manchester."
