Crash leaves road closed as police urge drivers to avoid area

A Greater Manchester road is closed in the early hours of Sunday morning (December 15) following a crash. Chorley Old Road in Horwich near Bolton is shut to traffic in both directions.

The closure was first reported at around 10.15pm on Saturday, according to traffic monitoring company Inrix. The road is closed between Bottom O'Th'Moor and B6402 Old Kiln Lane.

The road remains shut as of 2am on Sunday. Police are urging drivers to find alternative routes as investigations continue.

In an update shortly after midnight, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "We are currently responding to a road traffic collision in Horwich. Chorley Old Road is currently closed as officers continue their investigations. It is advised to avoid the area at this time, thank you for your cooperation."

Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, a pedestrian was injured in a crash in Gorton on Saturday night. Police closed Hyde Road shortly after 11.30pm.

Police had confirmed that road had reopened by 12.40am. The pedestrian remains in hospital, with officers describing their injuries as 'very minor'.
