All the key developments planned for Greater Manchester this week

In Manchester, a 19th century church could soon be overshadowed by a 133-home apartment block. The 23-storey building would surround Particular Baptist Chapel - which has stood on Rochdale Road since the 1800’s.
Over in Salford, a high profile fashion brand has set their eyes on a new HQ. They want to build offices, a showroom and warehouse on a former car dealership site on Bury New Road.

The new ‘New York inspired’ apartment block would be built close to Stockport's Merseyway shopping centre and historic Underbanks area, if approval is granted. The six-storey development includes more than 30 apartments.

The massive job at Heaton Park before Oasis even set foot on stage
Heaton Hall, the centrepiece of the huge park which will host Oasis next year, is set to get a huge refurbishment.
The Grade-I listed hall’s orangery is going to get its masonry and stonework repaired alongside a full internal redecoration, new floors and doors, improved toilets, and a ‘full overhaul of the electrical and heating systems’. It’s hoped, one day, the orangery will open to the public again — with images suggesting it could become a café space.
The TLC follows a £2.1 million project to make Heaton Hall wind and weather-tight, which took place in 2018 and 2019.
Historic 19th century church to be surrounded by 23-storey tower
A historic city church is set to be built around to make way for a 23-storey tower, new plans show.
The Particular Baptist Chapel has stood on Rochdale Road since roughly 1840, but has been disused for some time. However, the building faces a new future being completely surrounded by an apartment block of 133 flats.
Developers Cynergy say the facade of the chapel will remain, as will its internals.
Oldham

30 new homes planned for old industrial estate
Oldham Council received an application to convert part of an old industrial estate in Hollinwood into 30 new homes arranged around a shared garden and community café.
The 0.45 hectare site at Pretoria Road is currently home to derelict warehouses, which would need to be demolished. In their place, Max KohanZad promises to build an 'eco village' with 'light and happy homes' across three building blocks and two semi-detached houses on Collier Hill Avenue.
The two four-storey buildings would contain a total of 18 flats, four maisonettes and a HMO.
Rochdale

Salford
40-year-old fashion brand set to open £7m headquarters in Greater Manchester
A fashion brand is planning to set up a new headquarters in Salford backed by a £7 million investment.
Plaza Collection was established in 1982 and has grown to a position where it sells around 25,000 garments to customers every week both wholesale and online, the company says.
The family-run firm is currently working from OM House on Broughton Street in Cheetham Hill, but has submitted plans to build offices, a showroom and warehouse on a former car dealership site which it owns on 266 Bury New Road, Salford.
Stockport

Application lands for New York inspired apartment block in Stockport
An application for a New York inspired apartment block has landed on Stockport council's planning portal.
Details were shared in September about the six-storey development which includes more than 30 apartments based on the corner of Tiviot Dale and Bridge Street, close to Stockport's Merseyway shopping centre and historic Underbanks area.
Designed by Ollier Smurthwaite Architects, computer-generated images of the proposed development give a nod to the iconic Flatiron building in Manhattan.
Tameside

The new maternity unit that could soon open at a Greater Manchester hospital
Plans for a new maternity theatre in Tameside have been tabled in order to improve care for expectant mothers.
The new two-storey building would be built next to the current maternity centre on what is currently a car park on the grounds of Tameside General Hospital. The new theatre building would contain the maternity theatre; a scrub/prep room; a recovery room; storage rooms; as well as changing and showering facilities for hospital staff.
A linkway connecting the new building to the main hospital building off Fountain Street is also included in the plans.
Trafford
Enormous storage tanks to tower over area of Trafford
Plans for a green energy storage facility at Carrington Power Station where huge tanks will reach as high as 160ft have been submitted.
London-based Highview Power Limited wants to build a liquid air storage facility to generate clean power. If Trafford’s planning committee approve the scheme, five liquid air storage vessels will tower 160ft high.
A further four ‘high-grade cold store vessels’ will be 130ft high. Molten salt tanks will stand 62ft high. The plans also include circulation pumps and piping and two more buildings, parking, a perimeter fence and a grid transformer.
Construction is expected to take two years and the development is expected to have an operational life of at least 40 years.
