Forensics and armed police descend as police investigate double murder

It's believed police have been in attendance since around 5am today (November 17). Greater Manchester Police says one man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after two people were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two forensic tents are in place on Great Southern Street and several crime scene investigators are working in the area. Evidence markers have been seen on the ground while images have been taken by forensics as evidence.

Multiple armed response vehicles have also been seen in attendance. The Manchester Evening News understands both victims were fatally stabbed.
A teacher living close to the scene told the M.E.N. she was up marking papers when she noticed police arrive at around 5am. "I could hear helicopters," she said.

"I could see the blue flashing lights through the window. I thought, ‘what’s going on?’. I thought it must have been something serious because there were loads of police. I was in shock, thinking, ‘what’s happening?’. Something like this has never happened before. I’ve got children. It’s horrible, it’s really shocking."
Further details about the nature of the incident are yet to be confirmed. Residents are being urged to avoid the area this morning.
A GMP Longsight and Moss Side spokesperson posted on social media: "There is an emergency services presence on Great Southern Street in Moss Side whilst officers respond to an incident. Police have attended and despite the best efforts of emergency services, two people were treated at the scene and have sadly been pronounced dead.
"We have arrested one man on suspicion of murder. Please avoid the area as there is a large emergency service presence while we establish the full circumstances of the incident this morning." GMP has been approached for an update.
