Woman, 83, fighting for her life in hospital after being hit by car

An elderly woman is fighting for her life in hospital after being hit by a car in Oldham.

Emergency services responded to reports of the crash in Ashton Road at about 9.05pm on Sunday, October 27. Police say a Toyota Prius was travelling north along the road towards Oldham when it struck the 83-year-old woman, who was in the road at the time.

She was initially believed to have suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. However, she is now in a life-threatening condition, according to Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

The driver involved in the crash remained at the scene. Police say they have "assisted with enquiries".

Following the incident, Ashton Road was taped off in both directions near to Smokies Park for a number of hours, with a white car also pictured within the cordon.

GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is now appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam, mobile phone or doorbell footage, from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.
