A furious dad claims an XL Bully broke into his garden and killed his children's beloved cat in a "brutal" attack.

Carl Wyatt, 37, from Rushden, Northamptonshire, says he left his home to pick up his two kids from school but whilst he was out the visicous dog, alongside a Rottweiler entered his garden. His wife was at home when their cat, Charlie, was reportedly attacked on February 2 this year.

However, when the dad returned home, the beasts had already left the scene and his cat was nowhere to be found. They assumed that Charlie had been "spooked" by the animals. Sadly, the next day, Carl's sister-in-law, made a grim discovery in the greenhouse and found the cat had been "mauled". Charlie was taken to the vets who confirmed the injuries were consistent with the dog attack.

Carl said he had called the police but was told it was only a civil matter. The plumber said: "I was on the school run when the dog attacked Charlie. It was dark when we started looking for Charlie after he didn’t return home and that prevented us from finding his body. That night the cat didn’t come back, and we thought it had been spooked and It would come back in a few days.

“My wife's sister found the cat in the greenhouse, and my wife was sobbing her heart out. Everyone was distraught. My youngest one was too young to understand but my eldest had nightmares about it for weeks.”

Carl claims two dogs have been breaking into his garden since August 2023. Carl said: "I believe they first entered our garden in August, last year and they have broken in a few times since. In March, the dog again began to break through the fence and I built a new board fence behind the existing fence to stop it from gaining entry to our garden. The dogs push and chews their way through the feather edge fence until there was room for it to climb into the garden."

Carl's mother-in-law, took the cat to the vet after it was found dead in the greenhouse. They took Charlie for an X-ray but told Carl's mother in law, the injuries were consistent with such an attack. Carl said: “They did an x-ray, and the rest was history - everyone in the family was distraught."

Carl's children have been having nightmares about the dogs ever since they attacked their beloved Charlie. Carl said: “They would play with the cat every day and it is just so sad what happened to it. Everyone who I spoke to in the neighbourhood was appalled by what had happened.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesperson said: “Northamptonshire Police take these matters very seriously. We are aware of the concerns raised by Mr Wyatt and would welcome the submission of any previously unsubmitted video evidence in order to fully review this incident and ensure the correct mitigation is in place to protect people including Mr Wyatt and his family.”
